Squidoo is one of the most popular content sharing site, where thousands of authors and bloggers share their thoughts through lens. But ranking any squidoo lens on SERP is not an easy task, when you have hundreds of competitors.
Making squidoo SEO ready needs some basic strategy. In this article I will try to share 5 simple steps to make and to rank your lens on SERP. I use them all for my personal content creating, but I can’t provide you with any links to my personal lenses.

We all know that we don’t need to promote our blog posts if its published on high authority domains. Since search bots always crawl such domains and index their posts. But we have to still perform in-depth SEO, since it’s really necessary to rank our contents.
Same goes with Squidoo, which has domain authority 96 and has pagerank 7. It has millions of articles and ranks for vast majority on keywords. Over here we are just going to cover onpage SEO, since we can’t handle the sitewide optimization in this website.
Basic Steps To Setup SEO Friendly Lens
Few of the most important steps you should know before starting your new lens.
- Click on ” Start A Lens ! “.
- In the title area put the most appropriate Title ( We will discuss about keyword research later in this post ).
- In the next step remove all stop words from the link structure ( Example : for, is, and, or, etc ).
- Select the appropriate category and sub categories.
- Try to create G Rated Lens. It gets maximum visibility.
- Now finally in the tag area, put in three related keywords and synonyms.
- Click on ” Build My lens “.
I think it was easy enough.
Keyword Research For Beginners { Step 1 }
It’s really important to find the perfect and low in competition key-phrases to rank well. You can use Google keyword suggestion tool. It can help you find perfect low hanging fruit with good CTR and decent traffic. Check the image below. I am considering that your targeted phrase is ” keyword Research “.
- In the 1st step make sure to enter all your targeted words.
- Now click on ” [ Exact } " since we want to know the exact search volume.
- Then simply select your country, if its worldwide then select All countries.
- Press Search.
- You will get a list of keywords as shown in the image above. Choose the low competition words and try to add them in your content.
If possible try to note all the phrases and sprinkle them all over your article. This will help you get visitors for other search terms and will boost your visitors.
Squidoo SEO Content Writing { Step 2 }
In this section I are going to point out 5 different tricks. I personally use them, but can’t put any guarantee for better rank. Actually there is no one to give you guarantee on SEO.
- Headlines : H1, H2 & H3 Tags.
It’s always suggested to add keywords in headlines. So whenever you add any new module and whenever you provide any title, try to place any long tail, LSI or related synonym words. This will surely help to boost your Squidoo SEO.
- First & Last 50 Words.
Try to add the targeted phrase within this limit. Also try to highlight them by making them either bold, italic or underlined. This is to bring focus of search bots on your theme phrase. Also try to sprinkle it throughout your article, or in simple terms keep keyword density to maximum 1% ( excluding LSI. Long tail and synonyms ).
- Image Speak Hundred Words.

Say you have a topic on onpage SEO, then you can perform links to searchengineland, seomoz blog, search engine journal, Wikipedia in natural way. Also try to use your main keyphrase for outlinking. And please don’t make all links dofollow.
- Quality Content
Check different blogs and posts, even check different lens and try to figure out content, topics and all different sets of keyphrases and its placement. This will help you plan your content and the way to success.
According to me, try to keep your content length to atleast above 800 words. It’s really important since Google seems to rank those article and webpages on top which have good length of words. But make sure you don’t put any scrape. Firstly your lens will not be published and secondly you will never get what you desire.
All what you need to do is to first write content naturally and then sprinkle your keywords in most appropriate manner.
It’s really not required to complete any lens in one day. You can take your time and move step by step. All you need is to enjoy. Since squidoo has been made to make fun and not to scratch our heads.
How To Promote Squidoo Lens
There is no special requirement, since its also a website and it also has content. So it simply means you can use all your basic technique which you use to promote any of your post.

Whenever you visit any such website, in the website address just input this : http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lensmaster/username/ . Now replace the username with your username. Now all your latest lens will get backlink.
Room For Improvement
Since it’s not your personal website so you don’t really need to fear of Panda or penguin penalty. If you see you are not getting traffic it means you have to move with another way. In simple terms it’s a game where you can always stop and resume.
